Boogie Bikes, is a company I co-founded in early 2016 with 3 other colleagues. The company was born out of the need to make urban bikers commutes simple, safe, and fun. The concept for our banner product the LightLock was created from my time in the University of Oregon product design program. During a bicycle accessories focused studio, I began to see a need for efficient systems for urban commuters to get from point A to B that would provide a more sustainable future for city dwellers.

The LightLock utilizes an integrated lighting system to keep your head and taillight safely stored within your bike lock. The Lock comes apart in two halves and mounts on the front and rear of your bike with a seamless and versatile mounting system. This allows riders to increase the safety of bike and light theft with integrated light locking technology and an increased bike lock impenetrability. The LightLock seeks to streamline accessory storage and refine the beauty of this utilitarian accessory.

The process of product creation began with research and 3D Ideation. Working with foam and PVC I created many form models to see how mounting, sizing, and attachment worked for hundreds of different bikes around campus.

During the concept phase, I created multiple 3D printed models using materials such as nylon, clear PVC, circuitry, and good old-fashioned glue. These models began to push the concept to see what different types of lighting methods and connections would work inside of the soon to be metal locking system.

Bluprint Inc. _

The company formed under the name Bluprint Inc. in 2016 and became the brand Boogie Bikes a year later. We used this business pitch to gain capital and grants from local investors to finance our first round of prototyping efforts. As our initial business plan began to take shape we dove into developing manufacturing relationships, user research, and a marketing strategy.
